Bernhardt Montague is a recurring character who first appeared in Season 10 of When Calls the Heart. He is portrayed by Benjamin Wilkinson.

Montague first arrived in Hope Valley under the guise of being Madeline St. John’s fiancé. He assigned a crew of men to work on Bill’s land, which she had purchased. Neighbors heard noises and reported the goings-on to Nathan. Elizabeth was suspicious and engaged him in conversation about Madeline and her son Jamie but Montague seemed not to know anything about him. When Nathan investigated, the workers said they were digging a well.
It was eventually revealed that Montague was not, in fact, Madeline’s fiancé, but rather the head of a company called Union City Holdings, which was working alongside Governor Balfour to redirect water away from Hope Valley and other small towns and send it to Union City. When Lucas publicly exposed this plot, Montague was angry and told him he had no idea who he’d crossed.
