Delores Campbell was introduced in Season 2 of the drama series When Hope Calls. She is portrayed by Lyla Elliott.

Background[]

Delores was born and raised in Hamilton. Her parents died when she was 12 years old. After their passing, Delores went to live with her grandmother, but she too became ill and passed away from lung disease when Delores was 15. Left without friends or family, Delores tried to get by doing odd jobs like cleaning houses. One of her employers had adopted a baby from an orphanage in Ohio which had closed and the child's records were not available. This gave Delores the idea to make up a story about her past. When she turned 17, she realized she was getting too old to be put in an orphanage, but she couldn't find work. When two Mounties found her sleeping in the park, they assumed she was 15. Delores told them her name was Jenny, she was 15, and she was from the orphanage in Ohio. She was subsequently placed in the Hamilton Charitable Home. After she turned 18, Delores ran away from the Hamilton Charitable Home and ended up in Clearwater, where she tried to survive on her own, with little success.

Storyline[]

WHC Season 2[]

Delores was caught stealing cheese in Clearwater. The shopkeeper didn't press charges, and the detention facility in Clearwater referred her to the orphanage in Brookfield under her assumed name and age. "Jenny" fit in well with the other orphans, working hard and helping by making breakfast in the morning. Nora and Eleanor wanted to learn more about her past in order to better help her, so Nora asked Michael to do a background check. His investigation revealed that she was not who she said she was. Nora and Eleanor brought "Jenny" into the dining room and she revealed the truth. Delores was afraid they would send her away since she was 18, but Nora and Eleanor offered her room and board in exchange for her services to the orphanage. She could also get a part-time job to earn pocket money.
