Storyline[]
WHC Season 1[]
Gabriel and his horse, Apollo, returned to Brookfield in 1916 after he recovered from being shot by a bank robber. The Mounties offered him a desk job after the injury, but he declined, choosing to remain the constable for Brookfield. He worked with the townspeople to put out the fire.[1]
After the infirmary and general store burned down, Gabriel investigated the cause of the fire. After talking to two of the orphans, Gabriel realized that the fire was connected to the cattle rustling that had been going on. He inspected the brands belonging to Tess Stewart, Ken Newsome, and Daniel Olsen, who was Tess’s foreman, and discovered that Daniel had been stealing cattle, rebranding it, and selling it as his own. Gabriel also discovered that Daniel had inadvertently started the fire when he broke into the cattlemen’s association. Thanks to Gabriel’s investigative work, Daniel was brought to justice.[2]
After learning the prosecutors believed that Max, the bank robber who shot Gabriel, had actually stolen $12,000 rather than the $5,000 he admitted to, Gabriel decided to go to the jail and speak with him.[3]
