Marigold “Goldie” Elizabeth Coulter (born 1920) is the firstborn child to Lee and Rosemary Coulter. She is portrayed by Ellie Sweiss.
Background[]
Lee and Rosemary struggled for many years with infertility. They both wanted a child so much, but found no answers as to why they couldn’t conceive. They almost gave up hope until finally, in 1919, Rosemary became pregnant and Goldie was born in 1920.
Storyline[]
Season 10[]
As Rosemary’s due date approached, her excitement and nervousness grew. This caused her to try to micromanage every detail of her baby shower. Meanwhile, she and Lee also worked on preparing the nursery. The women in town threw Rosemary a surprise baby shower. They also gave her an afternoon of pampering and relaxation at the barbershop. During the shower, the women said encouraging things to Rosemary about how she would be as a mother, Lee surprised Rosemary with a handcrafted rocker and cradle he and Joseph had made together.[1]
Rosemary gave birth to a healthy baby girl.[2] She was supported in labor by Elizabeth, Faith, and Lee. The town held a candlelight vigil until the baby safely arrived. The couple had difficulty choosing a name for the baby until Rosemary was able to come to better terms with the loss of her mother. After going through a trunk full of letters her late mother had left for her, Rosemary ultimately decided to name her daughter after her mother and her best friend, giving her the name Marigold Elizabeth Coulter, or Goldie for short.
Rosemary and Lee asked Henry Gowen to be Goldie’s godfather, which he eventually accepted after some hesitation. This came after Henry had bonded with Goldie while serving as impromptu babysitter. Elizabeth was named as Goldie’s godmother. Goldie was christened by Pastor Joseph Canfield in late October 1920.[3]
Season 11[]
In the spring of 1921, Goldie took her first steps and watched the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter with her parents.[4] She began attending daycare with Jack and Lily.[5] Goldie participated in her first Easter egg hunt with the other children of Hope Valley.[6] She celebrated her first birthday at home with her parents, godmother Elizabeth, and Jack, who gave her a teddy bear as a birthday gift.[7]
