The Jack Thornton School is located near the site of the pond facing the row houses. The Church building also functions as the local school on weekdays. Elizabeth Thornton has been the teacher since 1910.
History[]
When Elizabeth Thatcher first came to the mining town of Coal Valley (now Hope Valley), lessons were conducted in the Saloon. This location was not ideal, so a new school needed to be built. After a generous donation by Jack Thornton, the townspeople rallied together to rebuild the church and school building. After Jack's death, the school was renamed The Jack Thornton School in his honor.
