Biography[]
William Thatcher is a shipping tycoon and the father of Elizabeth Thornton. William Thatcher is a rich man who wants the very best in life for his daughters.

During his engagement to Elizabeth, Jack travelled to Hamilton to speak with William and hopefully get his blessing to marry Elizabeth. William told Jack he had no objections to him personally, but was unsure whether Jack and Elizabeth were the right match for each other since they came from such different backgrounds. Jack assured him that he loved Elizabeth dearly and would dedicate himself to her happiness.
Ultimately, William did give his blessing, although he knew Jack and Elizabeth would marry with or without it. He tried to offer Jack a job in Hamilton in an effort to get Elizabeth to move back, but was unsuccessful. William travelled to Hope Valley for the wedding and walked Elizabeth down the aisle.
Season 10[]
When Elizabeth and Lucas were engaged, Julie and Agatha came to Hope Valley with news from William that he wanted to offer Lucas a job in Hamilton, just as he’d done with Jack. Lucas politely declined the offer.
